Andrew Little, Leader:

When our people are unwell and need help, it’s so important we have a health system that can look after them. Right now, though, it’s police who are handling a 30% jump in attempted suicides.

Police shouldn’t be caring for mentally unwell people – that’s a job for our mental health service. But National has underfunded health by $1.7 billion, and these really important services are stretched.

Labour will review our mental health system to ensure it gets the resources it needs so that when Kiwis are looking for help, they’ll get it.
